Marissa Boyd
Marissa Boyd entered the volleyball world at age 13 as an outside hitter for Elite and SMBC. Marissa began taking private lessons with Walt Ker the summer after her freshman year in high school and then moved to Legacy for her 16's year. The Boyds became one of the founding families for Legacy when it was first established in 2008 and Marissa was coached by Gerrit Maxwell on the 16-1's team. She returned to Legacy for her 17's and 18's years to be coached by Walt Ker and Tony Ker. This year Marissa returns as a coach for Legacy working the "10 and under" clinics and the regular Sunday clinics.
Her experience with children stems from volunteering as a counselor at Camp El Camino Pines based out of the church she attended, Bethlehem Lutheran. Every summer in junior high, she and her fellow confirmation group members would spend three to four weeks as assistant counselors in the Outdoor Retreat Programs located in the Los Padres National Forest. She would participate in teaching the campers how to play basketball and volleyball, rock climb, swim and many other recreational activities. Her love of teaching has inspired her to coach at legacy, and she looks forward to the upcoming season as an assistant coach.
Marissa Boyd lettered all four years of volleyball in high school: as a freshman and sophomore at Chaminade College Prep, and as a junior and senior at Granada Hills High School. Marissa began as an outside hitter in her freshman year and transitioned to libero as a sophomore. While playing volleyball at Chaminade she won the "Coaches' Award" as a freshman and "Most Valuable Defensive Player" as a sophomore. At Granada she won "Most Valuable Defensive Player" her junior and senior year. Her Granada Hills team was back-to-back CIF Champions in 2009 and 2010. Marissa won "First Valley All West Valley" in 2009 and "First Team All City" in 2010. Marissa graduated from Granada Hills Charter High School in 2011 with a GPA of 3.7. Currently, Marissa is continuing her volleyball career redshirting as a freshman on the Matador's volleyball team at Division 1 Cal State Northridge. She is studying Business Marketing and her minor is Nutrition. When she is not busy writing essays or practicing in the Matadome, Marissa spends her time babysitting, snowboarding and wakeboarding with her family, and getting extra practice at the Legacy gym.
